Salento Baroque in the
Handcrafted Creations

Leccese stone

We started working with pietra leccese because we fell in love with the Baroque architecture typical of the Salento peninsula, the palaces and churches embellished with this exceptional stone.

Leccese stone is born from the waters. Before it came to us it was sea mud, dried up and compressed by the forces of nature over the millennia; in fact, it is not uncommon for it to contain fossils of aquatic animals within it.

Its main characteristics are its beauty and ductility; in fact, master craftsmen say that pietra leccese is a stone that wants to be worked. It is no coincidence that this stone represents the foundation from which the artistic and architectural movement called Barocco Leccese was born.

Indeed, without Lecce stone, we would not have such extraordinary works as the Basilica of Santa Croce or the Cathedral of Lecce, the majestic cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta.

The aesthetic appeal of this stone comes mainly from its extremely fine texture and warm tones, from which details and definitions are obtained, making it ideal for making ornaments and friezes.

Even today, working with Lecce stone is as artisanal as you can imagine: creativity, experience, chisel and rasp are the only tools the skilled craftsman uses for his creations.

That’s why we fell in love with Lecce stone, a passion that, through our work, we want to pass on to you as well.
